Genuine vs fake AirPods Pro, point by point

Work through every row. No single line is proof on its own — counterfeiters fix the famous tells first — but the more boxes that fail, the more confident you can be.

Serial / date code

The AirPods Pro serial number

Serial number (Apple coverage check)

Format: The serial is laser-etched inside the charging case — open the lid and look under the flap/on the case interior — and is also shown in iOS Settings → Bluetooth → (i) once paired. It's a 10–12 character alphanumeric Apple serial.

Where to find it: Inside the charging case lid; and in iOS Settings after pairing.

How to verify (honest): This is the rare brand with a REAL public check: enter the serial at Apple's coverage page (checkcoverage.apple.com). A genuine AirPods serial returns a valid product with warranty status; a fake serial is rejected as invalid, or returns the wrong product, or shows as already registered to someone else. This is your single strongest, free verification.

FAQ

AirPods Pro authentication FAQ

How do I check if AirPods are real by serial number?
Find the serial inside the charging case lid (or in iOS Settings → Bluetooth → (i)) and enter it at checkcoverage.apple.com. Genuine AirPods return a valid product and warranty status; fakes are rejected, return the wrong product, or show as already registered.
Do fake AirPods show the pairing animation?
Usually not correctly. Genuine AirPods trigger Apple's setup card with the right model name and battery rings when opened near an iPhone. Fakes often show nothing, a generic card, or only connect through manual Bluetooth.
Will fake AirPods have Noise Cancellation in Settings?
Genuine AirPods Pro expose ANC, Transparency, an ear-tip fit test and a firmware version in iOS Settings. Counterfeits typically lack these and appear as a generic Bluetooth device.
